Bigger Than One Brand

The posts have been slow. The build queue hasn't.

While it's been quiet on here, we've been flat out in the background on something we've believed in for a long time and it's bigger than Campbell Designed itself.

Exo Flex was never just our tech.

From the start we knew Exo Flex was too good to live under one label. A set of finely tuned carbon fibre leaf springs that replaces the timber stringer — loading up during turns and giving explosive speed throughout — isn't something that should only live under the  Campbell Designed "surfboards" brand. It's a patented construction method that belongs under some of the best boards in the world for every surfer to benefit from.

So we spent the quiet stretch making that real.

Album Surf, USA

Exo Flex now has an official install partner in the United States: Album Surf.

If you know Album, you know Matt Parker doesn't put his name to much he doesn't believe in. Their team — Asher Pacey, Victor Bernardo, Margo — are now riding Album shapes with Exo Flex built in. There's a film of it, and the surfing does the talking.

For us that's a line in the sand. Exo Flex started here, on the Sunshine Coast, in our shaping bay. It's now going under boards on the other side of the world, ridden by some of the best free surfers alive.

What it means

Campbell Designed isn't going anywhere. Stuart's still shaping, we're still building custom boards out of the same bay, the same way. That's the home. That's where the tech was born, and where it'll always have it's roots.

But Exo Flex is its own thing — a technology, not a brand. Album is the first partner. It won't be the last.

We built something we beleive changes how a surfboard works & what a surfer can get out of a board. Turns out we're not the only ones who think so.....
